Due to poor surroundings, there was no pastor willing to apply for Kumnan church, established in honor of Dr. Hwal Nan Kim. Pastor Hong Do Kim, who was confirmed as the pastor in Feb, 1968 was assigned to Kumnan church in March, 1971.
When Pastor HongDo KIM was assigned to Kumnan church in March 1971, roughly 75 congregations attended the church, covering an area of 24 pyeong. However, the number of congregations increased to 300 after 3 months. Since the sanctuary became packed to capacity, service was divided into two and the church finally made a decision to extend the church to 30 pyeong.
At the result of revival of the church, after 2 year's assignment of Rev. HongDo KIM, the number of cell increased to 24 and the number of congregations attending main service became 700 to 800. Therefore the sanctuary became too narrow. Hence, they had the ground-breaking ceremony of the church, covering an area of 473 pyeong in April, 1973, and it was completed after 8 months.
At the result of rapid revival and growth in Kumnan church, the number of congregations became almost 15,000 in 1980. Although most of the family lived in poverty at that time, all the congregations decided to offer the building donations and prayed eagerly. Therefore, the construction of new church started again.
Worship service had kept going until the completion of construction at the Woosung shopping center in front of the church since Aug 1982. After two years' construction, they had worship at the new church, covering an area of 2500 pyeong and accommodating up to six thousands people.
